Announcement from MRUG - Manchester Revit User Group

.
MRUG - Manchester Revit User Group
Subject: Announcement from MRUG - Manchester Revit User Group

We just wanted to make you all aware of the progress Manchester Revit User Group is making;

Dan and Gavin of Cundall have done an excellent job of setting up the group, and have been kind enough to ask Peter Taylor of BDP, Gary Royle of AECOM and Rob Clark of Cadassist onto the committee (or managers as LinkedIn calls it).

So the MRUG committee are currently as follows;

Dan Woodman, Senior Structural Technician at Cundall
Gavin Bonner, Principal Structural Technician / BIM Coordinator at Cundall
Peter Taylor, Technology Support Manager, BDP
Gary Royle, Associate Partner, CAD Manager, AECOM
Rob Clark, Revit / BIM Specialist and Senior Structural Technician, Cadassist

I'm sure you will agree that this is a very strong committee in terms of resource and knowledge which has representation in all the disciplines. We are understandably excited about getting started! If you would like to get involved in a more "hands on" manner, please do let us know!

The committee are trying to get together over the coming weeks to arrange our first MRUG meeting. We will keep you up to date with progress.

In the mean time, please do invite your colleagues, contacts and friends onto the group. Further, please do make any suggestions, this group is all about participation.

All the best

MRUG

LRUG London Revit User Group Meeting - January 2011

.
David Light has posted a review of the evening over on his Revit Blog, and I have to agree with his synopsis of the event, I’m sure that Laura Handler Q5/Tocci and John Tocci Jnr Gilbane went away, knowing that the UK is not that far behind them in the use of Revit and BIM as they thought we were. It was interesting to see the shock on their faces as they began the realise this.

As for Integrated Project Design or IPD, I have been very fortunate to have worked on some Partnering schemes (that’s IPD before the Yanks took it re-branded it and are now trying to sell it back to us).

The UK Revit Register, Linked-In Group and LRUG London Revit User Group have started the ball rolling in the UK with the similar groups forming in Bristol, Leeds and Glasgow, but David forgot to mention Edinburgh.

A full list of UK Revit Groups may be found on the UK Revit Register.

As you only get to see the back of the heads of the attendees on Davids’ Blog I thought I’d give you a quick view of the front of some of their heads!

A motley crew aren’t we……

Photograph taken before everyone arrived, about ten minutes before the start of the evenings events.

Revit User Group forming in Leeds (RUGL)

.
Here is an email I recieved from Chris Senior of Revit Elemental, So if your in or around the Leed area, don't be shy, contact RUGLeeds

"Dear All

We are currently forming an independent Revit User Group based in the Leeds area. Initially we are contacting the core UK users who operate in the region to develop a group formed from experienced Revit users. We will be affiliated with the London Revit User Group (LRUG), Glasgow, Edinburgh and Bristol to form a network throughout the UK and help bridge the gap in the Midlands and North of England.

We aim to hold the first meeting in Feb/March in the Brewery Wharf area of Leeds. The group would meet bi-monthly on a weekday evening for a few hours followed by drinks. Content will vary and will be provided by the users as well as guest speakers and Autodesk representatives.

Initially we are interested in finding out your interest in this group. If you or your colleagues are interested please sign-up to the Linked-in Group or Facebook Group below. Alternatively you can drop
me an email to confirm your interest.

If it is more appropriate, please forward this email to your colleagues.

We have a Revit User Group established on Linked-in and Facebook.

Announcement from BRUG - Bristol Revit User Group on linked-In

"Thought I'd let you all know we have our first informal BRUG get together at the Horts public house in Bristol on Wednesday 26th January. I will be there from 5pm onwards, some are joining a little later 6 - 6:30. Let me know if you can make it.

I'll buy you a packet of crisps, flavour to suit your preference, if you make the effort to come along! (How can you turn an offer like that down???... if I'm feeling extra flash I may stretch to pork scratchings or scampi bites.) "  Mark Fox

So support your forming Bristol Revit User Group and meet up with these three Likley Lads.
( Photographs so that you know who you are looking for, not to scare you away! )

This is similar to how the LRUG ~ London Revit User Group got started.  There were three of us, Dave Light, Carl Collins and I that wanted to make it happen.

We planned an informal meet up with a few more interested parties. Next thing we knew we were having our first formal meeting and there were thirty of us, and now a year later we number 80 Registered Members of the web site and 58 on the invite list.

Good luck chaps….

If you want to find out more about BRUG visit their Linked-in Group, or email Mark Fox

Calling All UK Revit Users In and around Leeds and Bristol

I have been speaking to Chris Senior author of Revit Elemental and Glenn Jowett of Revit ST blog. They are both interested in setting up a Revit User Group in the Leeds area.

If this would interest anyone in or around the Leeds area, either comment on Glenn Jowetts RT Structure Post or send me your details to add to the UK Revit Register.

I also believe that Chris and Glenn will be setting up a Linked-In group for people to join. If enough interest can be generated, something will hopefully take shape early in the new year!

Chris and Glenn are not alone Mark Fox of Revit Fox is still tying to find enough Revit Users in and around Bristol with the aim of arranging a meeting early next year.

With LRUG, BRUG, ERUG, GRUG and now I’m guessing Leeds-RUG (having already nicked the L for London) It's looking like more and more users want to have that peer to peer support experiance.

Current UK Revit User Groups

The idea of the UK Revit Register to enable users and companies using Autodesk Revit Architecture, Structure and MEP to find other users and companies also using Revit based products in their region so that they can collaborate with them on schemes using a common program.
It’s hoped that the register might promote some regional banding of individuals that may want to meet down the local public house or visit each others offices when they found out that they are not the only Revit user in the village. You never know, if enough people respond, perhaps Regional User Groups may form around the UK. Those that already have or about too are listed below:-

BRUG ~ Bristol Revit User Group
Looking for members in and around the Bristol Area hoping for its first meeting in 2011

ERUG ~ Edinburgh Revit User Group
Sister Revit User group to the Glasgow Revit User Group. Hoping to hold its first meeting in January 2011

GRUG ~ Glasgow Revit User Group
Held three meeting in 2010, next meeting due early 2011

LRUG ~ London Revit User Group ~ formed 2010
Meeting held on or about the 3rd Wednesday, bi-monthly in Jan, Mar, May, July, Sept & Nov

Calling all Revit Users in and around Bristol in the UK

.

I had a chat with Mark Fox over at Revit FOX on the phone after he sent me his details for the UK Revit Register and I had looked at his Blog.

He is really interested in finding more people in and around Bristol who might be interested in gathering in a local pub or office, or perhaps starting a BRUG Bristol Revit Group.

Mark says on his Blog “I suppose it was inevitable, that at some stage, I would need to give up my lonely Revit existance and join other like minded individuals. I have to say although daunting, also somewhat exciting. I feel I have been boring my colleagues with my Revit talk, and ultimately the conversations are always one sided, as no-one else uses/wants to use Revit! So… with a hop and a skip and a little glint of pearly whites, i’m off to make contact! Wish me luck!"

Lets do better than just wishing him luck, let’s help find him some other Revit Heads to Play with and put some more pins on the map!

If you are in or around the Bristol area and fancy gathering and talking Revit then send your details to me for adding to the UK Revit Register, and then Mark and others in your area will be able to find you.

There is nothing quite as good as peer to peer support, that's why I'm involved with AUGIuk!

Autodesk Feedback Community Group on Linked-In

.
I've always maintained that there is little point in complaining about a piece of software if you are not willing to alpha and beta test to assist in its’ development.

I never wanted to become an Engineering Manager, Health and Safety CDM-C and Party Wall Surveyor it was just a natural progression from being a bloody good draughtsman and attending far to many part time college and university courses and obtaining an honours degree in civil engineering (with a structural bias).

Over the years I’ve written CAD software, alpha and beta tested all kinds of software, mostly these have been related to my first love “drawing”. Most testing I do is for fun, yes I like finding the little bugs in programs and code.

The profile for the group says “This group is intended for Autodesk product users and enthusiast interested in participating in Beta test cycles of future Autodesk product releases.”. That's good that means I'm an enthuiast and not a nurd or a geek :0)

Obviously to join the group you will need to set yourself up on linked-In (if you have not all ready).

So if you want to assist in making Revit and AutoCAD as bug free as possible, jump on board the group and get down and dirty with beta software.

There are a large number of Revit groups on linked-in already these include the likes off my own
  • UK Revit Register and
  • 2D and or 3D Top CAD Experts
  • Autodesk University
  • Autodesk User Group International (AUGI)
  • Charlotte's Revit User Group
  • Club Revit
  • Glasgow Revit User Group
  • KA Connect
  • Revit

First Mo-Kan RUG (Revit User Group) meeting!!

Here is a posting from Linked-in about a new RUG...always glad to see a new group forming!

"There have been numerous requests to start a Revit user group that covers all three Revit products - Architecture, Structure and MEP. A group of three of us have gotten together to do just that – to start a group that is driven by the user’s needs, wants, and insure members input and some control over group’s topics and discussions. This will be the first of what will be monthly Revit User Group (RUG) meetings for any and all Revit users of the greater Kansas City area. Food and drinks will be provided, and hopefully some give aways. So come prepared to meet other users and us (Angela, Heathe and William) and our sponsors (no sales pitches), and we'll set the stage for what we plan to be fun, but informative and edifying get togethers.

Meet at: ITT Tech, 9150 East 41 Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64133 (816) 276-1400

Date & Time: July 29th @ 5:30pm – 7:00pm

Note that Google Maps pinpoints this address in the WRONG location on the map. ITT is across the street (Blue Ridge Cutoff) from the Royals stadium.

Website (to be developed) is: http://mo-kanrug.blogspot.com/"

London Revit User Group - LRUG for short!

---
My field of dreams!
---
“Build it and they will come” Kevin Cosner was told in the film “Field of Dreams” well it's been some time happening but I created the UK Revit Register with the hope that it might promote some regional banding of individuals that may want to meet down the local public house or visit each others offices when they found out that they are not the only "Revit user in the village."
---
The UK Revit Register Group on linked-in was created to provide UK Revit users with a Discussion Area or Forum, somewhere where they can post News Items and the facility to advertise Jobs directly to Revit Users or Companies that use Revit. You can subscribe to a weekly or daily email re activity on the group, or follow a discussion.
---
It was a discussion thread in the Linked-In UK Revit Register Group which has spawned the LRUG ~ David Light (Revit) suggested on a discussion thread I had started about do we need a UK User Group? that If he managed to get a room and a projector and every body threw in five quid for a beer and pizza, how many people would actually turn up? The overall response from everybody was that it sounded like a bargain. But at the end of the day, we didn’t do the beer and pizza!.
---
Carl Collins of Arup Associates provided the venue, tea, coffee and biscuits and last night 26 Revit Users from companies based in London met up at ARUP’s offices for the inaugural meeting of LRUG. I gave an introduction to the group and a short presentation on known Revit Bugs, David gave a presentation on Revit Tips and Tricks and Carl on what he calls “the Geeky Stuff “Accurate Calculation of Embodied Carbon and Energy”
---
During a group discussion it was decided to keep the meetings small by limiting attendees to one representative from each company for a number or reasons.
---
As David says on his blog “The group plans to start smallish and hopefully grow into something which is sustainable….often these groups fall apart after a few meetings. But I (we) are keen that this group can grow and flourish. It has no secret agendas, it is trying to go back to grass roots; a group for users to share knowledge and learn from one another across all disciplines of Revit.”
---
Whist the meetings are to be limited to one person per company, as many users as you wish from a company may become members of the LRUG web site.

I would like to thank the Partners of Scott White and Hookins, for donating some web space and funding the LRUG web site.
---
The web site is a work in progress and as webmaster I’m still learning Joomla! so it’s a little rough around the edges at the moment. As I said to the members last night I’ve built them a playground (web site) with all the things I would like to see there, it’s up to them how they end up using it.
---
All the presentations will be available for download following the meetings and a forum area is provided for All, Architectural, Structural and MEP users.
---
Don’t forget, If you are based in London and wish to have access to the Members area of the LRUG web site to gain access to the forum and members’ area or to express a desire to attend a future meeting please email alan@cadalot.co.uk
---
Allan Brown informs me that that the Linked-In Glasgow Revit User Group called GRUG is to have its Inaugural Meeting on Tues 1st June 2010. If you are based in or around Glasgow email Allan Brown or Graham Stewart or use their facebook site
---
We have also become aware of a user group called BIM up North for northern UK users is in process of being formed as well. I will let you have more details as they become available.
